Weekly Update - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Good Afternoon Families,

Please see below, important information for this week and beyond.

IMPORTANT DATES:

PICTURES @ Nelson @ 6:15pm - June 11th

Please arrive by 6p.m. We will take a whole team photo. (It is not like soccer; your child will not be in the team photo if they miss this.)

What to wear: A black one-piece swimsuit or Jammers. Black only. Swimmers may wear their team shirts if they want to. (Hopefully new team shirts are here in time.)

Hair: Make sure hair is solidly in place. The photographer suggests braids and ponytails for girls or lots of hair products. Wind is inevitable and can cause unintended, messy photos.

What to expect: Individual and team photos. The photographer will also allow for sibling, cousin, and group photos. Be prepared that if the photos are of more than one household, only one household will get the photos sent to its viewing portal.

Sign up for Mandatory Timing Shift (Adults) - https://orovilleorcas.swimtopia.com/swim_meets

Times: Arrive Friday by 4pm; Arrive Saturday and Sunday by 7:30am

What to Expect:

  • Before we start - Arrive, find the team tent area, set up, and be ready for coaches' meetings and warm-ups. Use Meet Mobile or the lineup board to find your child's race, heat, and lane. Write it on them with a Sharpie. Let the coach know if you can't stay for relays. (These are fun and recommended, the points also add to the total team scores.)
  • During the Day - Listen for events to be called. Have your swimmer check in with the coaches two events before their event. After they talk to the coach, have them wait at the starting blocks until their race is called. Make sure swim caps and goggles are put on one heat before their race. After each race, check back in with coaches. Stay hydrated.
  • Timing Shifts - All families must volunteer for a 1-hour timing shift for each day their child swims. If you don't pick your shift, the board will assign you one. NVAL and Sierra Nevada require us to provide this service for our kids' swimming. If you are attending as a single parent with a swimmer under 8, let us know. We will try to find someone to cover your shift or find a veteran family to help watch your child. The hospitality team will bring you free water and often snacks while timing.

What to Bring:

  • Chairs
  • Small ice chest with water and healthy snacks
  • Sun Screen
  • Swim Suit and Towel
  • Goggles and Cap
  • Flip flops
  • Optional But helpful items
    • Canopy (Highly recommended, if you don't have one, share with another family.)
    • Money for snack bars and merchants
    • Water Cooling Neck Rags
    • Battery Powered Misters
    • Rolling cart to lug everything around
    • Grass Mat
    • Legos or other items to entertain your swimmer while waiting to race. (Swimmers often entertain each other.)
