Practice Information

Keep a lookout for our 2026 schedule

Practices are typically between 5:45-9:30pm, depending on the number of swimmers and the number of pods of swimmers.

Pods 1-5 practice from 45 minutes to 1:45 min depending on age and ability, Monday - Thursday during the season. 

Note: We only practice 2-3 days per week when there are duals, picture day, or a fundraiser. 

Practice Expectations:

  • Arrive 10 minutes before practice; on time is considered late. 
    • This allows swimmers time to put sunscreen, swim cap, and Goggles on, go to the bathroom, talk to friends, etc. 
  • ONE piece swimsuits only
  • Board shorts are okay, only if they tie at the top 
  • Caps and goggles must be worn during practice and meets (caps not required if outside temps are over 100 Degrees)
  • Sunscreen is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED
  • Water Bottles are a must
  • Swimmers will be responsible to get their own equipment from the equipment shed and will need to return the equipment when practice is over
  • No parents on the pool deck, you may sit on the bleachers. 
  • Check the Family Box daily
  • Let the coaches coach, and the swimmers swim. 
  • Concerns about your swimmer: Leave a note in the coach's folder to schedule a meeting with the coach.  
  • Questions about anything - Ask a Board Member

Items Provided by the Orcas Swim Team:

  • All practice equipment
  • One Swim Cap
  • One Swim Team Shirt

Items PARENTS Provide:

  • Practice Swim Suits (One Piece)
  • Competition Suit (Optional: Check the Team Store), or solid black swim suit
  • Extra Caps (Can purchase swim team ones from the Board or at Registration)
  • 2 pairs of Goggles
  • Water Bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • 1-2 Swim Towels
  • Chairs for parents if needed

The Oroville Orcas Swim Team is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide swimmers, ages 18 and below, coaching and training for competitive swimming. Orcas encourages self-esteem, sportsmanship, and health and wellness. Orcas' goal is to provide a program that meets the challenges of all swimmers. Orcas strive to provide education and training of individuals to develop and improve their capabilities in the sport of swimming.
