Urgent - Help Save Our Largest Fundraiser

Dear Families,

The Oroville City Council will be holding a meeting on October 15th at 4:30pm at the State Theatre to determine the fate of safe and sane fireworks in Oroville. The council is interested to see if there is community support in keeping them. This fundraiser is 1/3 of the Oroville Orca's Swim Team budget ($10,000-$14,000) and without it the team will have to consider how to raise the needed funds.

We agree that there needs to be better enforcement for those using illegal fireworks and those shooting off safe and sane outside the city limits but we do not agree with a full ban. We also sympathize with those who have lost their homes to a fire. We are not trying to disregard the severity of this devastation on individuals of our community and team. We understand the impacts of fire in our community. But statistically, safe and sane fireworks are not the reason for those fires, arsonists are and typically will stop at nothing to start a fire. They use gas, matches, lighters, and more to start fires daily.

Our Community spends over $1.3 Million annually on fireworks without major issues. Safe and sane fireworks offer families a fun and safe way to celebrate the 4th of July without having to fight crowds at the 15 minute public display. Parking lots are packed and streets are full with families celebrating. Additionally, the safe and sane fireworks provide over $500,000 ($350,000 just from TNT) to local non-profits and youth sports clubs such as ourselves to allow us to keep doing the good work that we do at a fraction of the cost.
