Oroville Orcas Weekly Update - Important Information

Good Morning Families,

Please see below, important information for this week and beyond.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Chico Invitational @ Durham Pool - June 13-25th - Registration Closed

Sign up for Mandatory Timing Shift (Adults) - https://orovilleorcas.swimtopia.com/swim_meets

Times: Arrive Friday by 4pm (Warmups at 4pm); Arrive Saturday and Sunday by 8am (Warmups at 8am)

What to Expect:

  • Before we start - Arrive, find the team tent area, set up, and be ready for coaches' meetings and warm-ups. Use Meet Mobile or the lineup board to find your child's race, heat, and lane. Write it on them with a Sharpie. Let the coach know if you can't stay for relays. (These are fun and recommended, the points also add to the total team scores.)
  • During the Day - Listen for events to be called. Have your swimmer check in with the coaches two events before their event. After they talk to the coach, have them wait at the starting blocks until their race is called. Make sure swim caps and goggles are put on one heat before their race. After each race, check back in with coaches. Stay hydrated.
  • Timing Shifts - All families must volunteer for a 1-hour timing shift for each day their child swims. If you don't pick your shift, the board will assign you one. NVAL and Sierra Nevada require us to provide this service for our kids' swimming. If you are attending as a single parent with a swimmer under 8, let us know. We will try to find someone to cover your shift or find a veteran family to help watch your child. The hospitality team will bring you free water and often snacks while timing.

What to Bring:

  • Chairs
  • Small ice chest with water and healthy snacks
  • Sun Screen
  • Black Swim Suit and a Towel
  • Goggles and Cap
  • Flip flops
  • Optional But helpful items
    • Canopy (Highly recommended, if you don't have one, share with another family.)
    • Money for snack bars and merchants
    • Water Cooling Neck Rags
    • Battery Powered Misters
    • Rolling cart to lug everything around
    • Grass Mat
    • Legos or other items to entertain your swimmer while waiting to race. (Swimmers often entertain each other.)

Picture Make Ups - Friday, June 13th

There is an in studio makeup day scheduled for Friday the 13th and swimmers can book here: https://creative.as.me/schedule/f6934dac/appointment/14261466/calendar/1298311?appointmentTypeIds[]=14261466

Gridley Dual - June 18, 2025 @ Home

We expect that all swimmers are attending duals as these are our "games." It is important to let Coach Sarah know if you can't make it to the dual. Otherwise she is expecting you to be there.

Bring your canopy's for the lawn and money for the snack bar.

VOLUNTEERS - This is a home dual, please sign up for a shift for the night to help run the event. Please also remember that we are all volunteers, including the board. When you sign up for a shift, we are assuming that you will be there and the others who are volunteering for the same job are counting on you to be there to help them. These volunteer opportunities are necessary for the team to operate. Without parent help, we can not have host home duals.

Durham Invitational - June 20-22 @ Durham Pool

Lets show up in full force with over 50 swimmers at this close to home meet. If you need help registering, reach out to Erica Brubaker on Remind or talk to a board member at the pool.

  • Forms passed out last night and Today (June 12). Please make sure you get one. Check the deck box if you did not get yours.
  • Sign up for a slot, either 5:45-7:45 or 7:45-9:45. Put your preference in the comments. Only 40 swimmers will be allowed per slot, the rest will have to take what is left.
  • Your swimmer swims for 2 hours and you count their laps.
  • Collect and turn in Funds Raised by June 30th.
  • Families who raise $100 get an Orcas Towel, $200 raised get a towel and hat.
  • Our team goal is $5,000 raised to support paying for coaches, pool rental, supplies and more.

Paradise Dual - June 25, 2025 @ Paradise Pool

This is our first away dual. Can we get 65 swimmers here? If we do, one lucky swimmer will get to Pie Coach Sarah at the next practice. Paradise has lots of shade, you'll only need your chairs, water, snacks.

Fireworks Booth - June 28th - July 4th in the Food Maxx Parking Lot

Location - Please note that we have moved to the Food Maxx Parking lot. We are trying it out this year as it is a high traffic area.

Advertise - Please tell EVERYONE you know about our booth. This is our largest fundraiser of the year. We strive to raise $12,000 after expenses to cover the cost of team operations. This is 1/3 of our operational costs.

Volunteer - Volunteers are a vital part of the swim team. Without you, we can not operate. We need all families to take a shift or two to help sell fireworks.

Children - No one under 18 can be in the booth according to State Law, often, we will bring our kids (if they are old enough to safely sit in a chair in a parking lot) and have them sit outside next to the booth with toys or an electronic device.
